Hiking Elk Mountain

If you'd like to have a feeling of what the old west was like, I can highly recommend spending a day hiking in the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge. I did that last week. It's located in Southwestern Oklahoma...a short two hour drive from Oklahoma City.

Spring flowers were beautiful and abundant....the bison roaming free were majestic....the prairie dogs were scurrying to manage their daily chores.
Hiking to the summit of Elk Mountain is gorgeous and moderately challenging......reaching the top....standing in the mist....looking out at the 60,000 acres was like having a moisturizing spa treatment.

A tired body......a renewed soul......a wonderful world.

  1. Wow, to see the beauty of managing a changing world. We should take lessons from the beautiful bison whose ancestors were on that land long before there were asphalt roads. As I move through my sacred journey, I will remember the message, for me, behind these pictures. Take the changes as they come and see the gifts in enjoying a snack, crossing a road and a quiet rest!

    open to opinion
    to verse
    to knowing.
