For the past 6 weeks I've been thinking about playing a joke on my nephew. He and I have a silly kind of relationship....laughing on the phone, laughing through email, laughing while cooking. This week my husband, with astonishment, said "You're driving 10 hours for a 3 minute laugh?". "You bet I am", I said "and that laugh will be worth every minute of the 10 hour drive."
Although sharing the nature of the joke would be too wordy for this blog, I can tell you I felt like a million dollars driving home that day. I thought more about the sacredness of laughter...how healing it is, what a great workout it gave my body (my face ached and my sides ached)....surely calories were burned?.......to sum it all up, I just felt good.
After 40 plus years of marriage, if it weren't for humor we probably wouldn't still be married. Humor has bound us together, lightened our burdens and helped us keep things in perspective. And......as my youngest granddaughter said (when she pronounced an R as an L), "Oh Glammy, you clack me up".
I'd love to have your comments on how you and family or friends "clack" each other up. What are some of the ways you've learned how to laugh at yourself and take yourself more lightly?

Christmas time 2 years ago my granddaughter was sitting at the dining table doodling on post-it-notes. I did not think anything about it but after they left as I was cleaning up I saw one of the notes. At the top MERRY CHRISTMAS was printed then in the center were two hearts. One heart was bigger than the other and at the bottom I LOVE YOU GRAMS. I love that brightly colored note! That note has given me so much pleasure that I am going to frame it. I imagine some day she will find that among my things and chuckle about the fact that I kept it and framed it!!!!A little doodling is a good thing.
ReplyDeleteMy family, immediate and extended, are all big "laughers" and boy am I blessed to be one, too!! It has not only given me a great workout (Yes, mother, I'm positive you can count it as a workout!) but peace at times, as well. I can think about many times I could have been ticked-off and instead, I just laugh in astonishment that what just happened, happened to me. Better to laugh than be angry. And some of the best times are when I am laughing so hard, call my mom to share...am unable to speak through the laughter and I begin to hear her laughing and she doesn't even know why. What a gift we share!
ReplyDeleteLaughter is considered one of the best forms of medicine there, because it relieves so much stress in our body. When you really get down to it, your sense of humor is one of the most powerful tools you are under stress and pressure in your life.
